New York is America’s #1 busiest city and can also be the most expensive. A studio in the city can easily cost you $1,000+.
So, while you are visiting New York City, where are the best places to visit to get the most out of your stay? I came up with a list of the best places to visit while on a budget.
1. Visit the New York Public Library for free.
While you are where, browse at the large selections of books and if you’re in need of wifi, you will be able to use it here for free as well. The library is also filled with art work and architecture that will amaze your eyes. If you’re not into reading, at least take appreciation of your surrounding and if you’re only coming for wifi, at least pretend you are looking at books.
2. If you love animals and zoos, visit the Bronx Zoo for free on Wednesdays.
Obviously, donations are accepted as it is with all zoos. The Bronx zoo has thousands of animals to browse at and it’s also a great place to take your camera along for pictures. This zoo is 265+ acres so get prepared for plenty of walking. Look at it as getting a free workout along with your free admission to this very large zoo.
3. Working out can be quite expensive in the city.
Luckily, there are free workout classes all over and better yet, they are outside. Shape Up NYC offers free fitness classes during the week, so depending on your schedule while you’re in NYC, it might be a good idea to check ahead of time to see what time classes are.
4. If you’re in the Bronx area, check out their free concert listings online.
These free concerts are usually only in the summer, so if you plan on visiting during June-August, give this list a check before you arrive in the city. No matter what city you’re in, there is usually a free concerts listing online, so be sure to give yours a check on Google.
5. If art is your forte, visit the Queens’ Socrates Sculpture Park and browse at the amazing sculptures and art work close to the water.
This place is open year round and is great for the art seekers out there. You’ll browse at different sculptures that will be unlike you’ve never seen anything before.
6. The New York Aquarium is also free after 3PM on Fridays.
Same with the Bronx Zoo, donations are also accepted. Bring along your camera and snap pictures of all the water creatures that you might have not ever seen before. I am in love with underwater mammals, so aquariums are definitely my favorite place to visit every time I go to a new city.
What else would you recommend doing while in New York City? What other free things have you done during your visit?
