Common Travel Mistakes

Common Travel MistakesLife is all about learning. However, I do think that there are certain things that I can inform you about so that you attempt to not make the same mistake again :)

Here are common travel mistakes that you should learn before you accidentally make them.

Not realizing/researching the local traveling laws.

Do you know if you need a passport? What about a visa? Did you know that you may need a visa even if you just have a long layover and leave the airport just for a few hours?

For many countries, you even need to show proof of funds and proof of an onward ticket. You may not be able to get on your plane unless you show that you have another ticket, so don’t think that you can just book it as you go in every country.

Not learning local customs.

Don’t think that this is something that you can skip. Every country does things differently, and you should do your best to learn the local way of doing things so that you can be prepared. You also don’t want to offend someone just because you think that what you are doing is polite.

Forgetting to make copies of important documents.

You may be the most organized person on Earth, but you should always try to make copies of your important documents. Copies that you may want to have include: passport, insurance cards, license, and so on.

Not thinking about your connecting flights.

There are a few mistakes that can be made here. You might find a great deal on a flight that has a connecting flight. However, you might not have thought about how much time you have to make the connecting flight, or you might not even looked at all and just assumed that the booking agency checked it. However, that is not always the case!

You should always know when your connecting flight is, how much time you have, and how much time that exact airport usually needs. With some airports, you may need 30 minutes, but with others you may need a few hours. This is for many reasons, such as if they airport is very big, if the plane often ends late, and so on.

You also want to make sure that your connecting flight is at the same airport! You would be surprised by how many people don’t notice that their connecting flight might not even be at the same airport.

What travel mistake have you made?

  1. Great post. I agree, lack of knowledge often may lead to various travel problems. The key is to do some research before going anywhere :-). It works with me!
